US artificial intelligence and semiconductor companies have expressed interest in investing more than $1 billion in Bangladesh, following a high-level technology investment roundtable in California.

US artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor companies have expressed interest in investing more than $1 billion in Bangladesh, according to State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj.

The investment interest was discussed during a CEO and Senior Executives Roundtable held in East Palo Alto, California, on September 28. The event was organised under the theme “Technology Investment and Strategic Partnerships for Bangladesh’s Growth.”

The discussions focused on potential investment and cooperation in AI, data infrastructure, semiconductor technologies, technology transfer, workforce development, research and innovation, trade expansion and strategic partnerships.

Hajjaj said Bangladesh has significant potential to attract international investment in its technology sector. He emphasised that converting the expressed interest into actual investment would require stronger technology-transfer mechanisms, skilled human resources, research and innovation capacity, and an investment-friendly environment.

The state minister also noted that investment in AI, data infrastructure, semiconductor technology and other high-tech industries could contribute to diversifying Bangladesh’s economy and creating new employment opportunities.

The Bangladeshi delegation included Prime Minister’s Adviser for Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam, and Prime Minister’s Adviser for Posts, Telecommunications, Information Technology and Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad.

However, the specific US companies that expressed investment interest have not been publicly identified. Details about individual projects, investment timelines or formal investment agreements have also not been disclosed.

The discussions come as Bangladesh seeks to strengthen its position in emerging technology sectors, particularly semiconductor design and related capabilities, AI infrastructure, research and skills development.
